EMMA JANE | An Adoption Story

The Bush family has been a huge part of my settling into Austin. Steven & Maris took me in, cared for our friendship, and assured me we were family. I knew and know I can count on this family for anything; I know a lot of people who would say the same thing.

In May of this year, they legally adopted Emma Jane, who they had been fostering since March, 2015. Their journey was not an easy one, but their discipline to love longer, harder, and better paid off when Emma finally became family. Words from Maris:

"Emma came to us as a confident and resilient 4 year old little girl. We began the journey with her and can honestly say the situation was harder than we could have ever expected. Through it all, even in dark days, God was with us each step. We always thought she would go back with her family. God had other plans. There was always this mix of wanting her to go back and be happy but yet longing for her to stay. We found out she was staying and it was a precious moment in the midst of a long journey. She was ours. Forever. We still have a long road of healing ahead but it's one we will always find joy in taking with her. We had longed for our, "Emma Jane" for so long! We are so proud of her. She is a joyful fighter. She has been such a gift to us and we are so thankful to God for each step of her journey to becoming a Bush!"
